Passive/Aggressive

ÅRSLISTE: Citater, der formede musikåret 2011

December 27 2011

When I talked to Politiken’s Martin Finnedal for this article, he had no opinion about the connection between his country’s fringe politics and its punk rock. He’d never heard of Dogmeat, nor had he heard of the bands Iceage regularly performs with. “If they were fascist,” he assured me with the paternal cadence of a government bureaucrat, “there would be enough writers here who would flag it right away and expose it to the rest of the country.” Thirty-six hours after our interview, Politiken published a series of alarmist articles by Finnedal about Iceage’s supposedly disturbing imagery. I couldn’t believe that he had grabbed the story straight out of my hands, in the process sensationalising it beyond recognition.
(Benjamin Shapiro, Vice, Triumph Of The Thrill)

(Torsten Larsen, Passive/Aggressive, På røven i spejlkabinettet (igen))

Chillwave came along, and it turned ambient music into this perfume that overwhelmed the room. It used to feel therapeutic, but then it started to feel like people would put anything through three delay pedals.
(Bradford Cox, interview in Pitchfork)

Hey, don’t do anything that I say in this song, okay? It’s fuckin’ fiction
If anything happens, don’t fuckin’ blame me, white America, fuck Bill O’Reilly
(Tyler, The Creator – Radicals)

It would take more than 100 years to listen to Spotify’s catalogue of around 15 million songs – on of the world’s biggest music libraries – and to which we add more than 20,000 new tracks every day. We have agreements with the four major labels and many thousands of smaller indie labels, and the overwhelming majority of our label partners are thrilled with the revenues we’re returning to them.
(Spotify statement, Digital Music News)

(Ralf Christensen, Information, Snart vil ingen lytte)

(Anders Cold, Soundvenue, anmeldelse Lou Reed & Metallica “Lulu”)

We all live in a murderous world, as the events in Norway have shown, with 97 dead. Though that is nothing compared to what happens in McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Shit every day.
(Morrissey, under en koncert i Warszawa)

Erik Jensens bandønsker til Roskilde Festival 2012

December 24 2011

#1 The Black Keys
The Drive-By Truckers vil dog også pynte gevaldigt på plakaten.

#2 Diego Cigalla

ÅRSLISTE: 2011 according to Laurel Halo

December 19 2011

“If 2012 is the Apocalyptic Not-A-Fine-Day, then 2011 was the pre-game: where everyone’s participated in a U/Livestream session hiding out from hurricanes or riots or their responsibility and instead, intensely feeling or believeing something happening on the screen, DJs or protesters doing it for them, ‘long lost’ culture relics on YouTube or the brilliantly shaded Soundcloud waveform.

Music’s increasingly ‘hyper-‘ in 2011 – hyper-sentimentality replacing pain for a similar sensation, hyper-affectation replacing old music for new, hyper-mystery making anyone with a dick and a laptop a badman (aka music without a heart will always lose).

I found joy in the DIS Trance War that led dozens of producers to make their best actual (or approximations of) Trance anthems, Nick Weiss’s winning track using a Gabba kick and a sealing, peaceful message (“Can you really win a war? Where are the children? Who’s gonna teach them, tonight…”). Also in HDBoyz’ N’Sync-circa-1998 appropriation, Far Side Virtual and Replica‘s cutting up of our commercial brains and the grace of Julia Holter’s Tragedy.

LED contact lenses and dream scanning, Arab Spring, Occupy and other riots worldwide, politicians becoming increasingly idiotic (“We have to stop blaming the banks”) and loops again taking focus all dance on the periphery of 2011’s antiparticipatory collective conscience, gearing us up for what we can say musically and what we can do IRL in 2012.” (Laurel Halo, i Wire januar)

Mixtape: Oneohtrix Point Never

December 16 2011
